According
to the Employment Service Statistics, at the end of August the number of
unemployed jobseekers registered at Employment and Economic Development Offices
totalled 269,500, up 74,300 on the previous year.
In August,
28,500 of the unemployed were individually laid-off. Since August a year ago,
the number of individual lay-offs has increased by 23,200.
The number
of new vacancies reported to Employment and Economic Development Offices during
August totalled 31,900, or 13,500 less than August in
the previous year. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies at Employment and
Economic Development Offices amounted to 50,100 in August, which is 21,500 less than a year ago.
Of
unemployed jobseekers, 155,200 (58%) were men and 114,300 (42%) women. Compared with August a year ago, unemployment among men
increased by 56,000 (56%) and among women by 18,300 (19%).
At the end
of August, the number of long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption
for more than a year amounted to 41,100, down 1,300 on the previous year. Of
those, persons unemployed without interruption for more than two years numbered
14,800, down 4,500 on the previous year.
The number
of foreign citizens among unemployed jobseekers totalled 17,500, up 3,500 from
August a year ago. Of these foreign unemployed jobseekers, EU/EEA citizens
accounted for 3,700 at the end of August, up 1,000 from the year before.
