According to the Employment Service
Statistics, at the end of July 2009 the number of unemployed jobseekers
registered at Employment and Economic Development Offices totalled 290,100, up
69,600 on the previous year.
Compared with July a year ago, unemployment
among men increased by 53,900 (51%) and among women by 15,700 (14%).
At the end of July, unemployed
jobseekers under 25 years of age numbered 43,500, representing an increase of 16,400
from July a year ago.
At the end of July, the number of
long-term unemployed who had been unemployed without interruption for more than
a year amounted to 41,100, down 3,300 on the previous year. Of those, persons
unemployed without interruption for more than two
years numbered 15,200, down 4,800 on the previous year.
The number of foreign citizens among
unemployed jobseekers totalled 20,500, up 3,700 from July a year ago. Of these
foreign unemployed jobseekers, EU/EEA citizens accounted for 4,100 at the end
of July, up 1,200 from the year before.
The number of new vacancies reported
to Employment and Economic Development Offices during July totalled 24,700, or 10,000
less than July in the previous year.
