Employment Bulletin, November 2008

Employment bulletin of the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy, November 2008:
At the end of November, the number of unemployed jobseekers registered at employment offices totalled 201,200, up 2,000 on the previous year. Compared with October, the number of unemployed jobseekers increased by 8,600.

The upward turn in the number of unemployed jobseekers was due to the rapid increase in the number of individual lay-offs. In November, the number of laid-off workers among the unemployed totalled 12,500, up 4,100 from October. Since November a year ago, the number of lay-offs has increased by 6,300.

The number of new vacancies reported to employment offices during November totalled 29,500, or 7,500 less than November in the previous year. In all, the number of unfilled vacancies at employment offices amounted to 54,500 in November, which is 12,500 less than a year ago.

The number of foreign citizens among unemployed jobseekers totalled 12,100, up 500 from November a year ago. Of these foreign unemployed jobseekers, EU/EEA citizens accounted for 2,500 at the end of November, up 200 from the year before.
